On The Road With Charlie! 🦮
View out the window while receiving my final treatment before heading out on a long overdue road trip tomorrow morning. Almost everything is packed so should be able to mostly rest this afternoon if all goes well. I’m hoping to blog about the trip as I go so as not to get behind. It’s easier to write when it’s fresh.
We hit the road just after seven and had a good drive all the way to Reno.
Charlie was great. We stopped about every two hours for Charlie and because my doctors told me to.
I wasn’t tired when we first got to Reno but after taking Charlie for a mile walk and walking up the stairs to the room twice it definitely hit me. 😴
I was disappointed that the sky was so hazy when we saw Mt. Shasta.
Saw what looked to be a forest fire after we got into Nevada.
Our motel was near the Livestock Event Center.
I didn’t think about the fact that Charlie had never climbed up or down a flight of stairs. 😂 He made it clear when I had to carry him up the first time and practically drag him up the second. Third time was the charm.
We had a good second day of traveling. Last night after dinner I got the maps out and used my phone to check distances and time and I wound up changing plans. Instead of taking I80 to I15 and stopping in Nephi, Utah I decided to take the Loneliest Road in America, Highway 50. I had driven it before so I knew it was fine. From 50 we took Utah 21 and stopped for the night in Beaver, Utah. By changing routes I saved about 100 miles, time and having to drive through Salt Lake City and Provo.
This is a picture of an A7 Corsair on display in Fallon, Nevada. It’s the second type of aircraft I worked on in the Navy.
It’s really a lot prettier drive than you would think. I forgot how many mountains there are on that route. The collage is taken in all four directions when I stopped to give Charlie a break. I think he was ready to be done when we got to the motel.
The final days drive to Colorado Springs was another beautiful day. I am always so impressed with the beauty of the landscape in Southern Utah. It is truly breathtaking.
Continued to follow doctors orders and stopped to walk at various places including the State line and Georgetown Lake.
When we arrived in the Springs and checked in there was a great view from the room. Joe came by after we were settled with our traditional Little Caesars Pizza and Bud Light.
Not so good was the altitude is really messing with my O2 levels so I’ll see how I feel tomorrow and make the decision whether to stay until Friday or head out earlier.
Creswell - Colorado Springs 1525 miles 24:56 drive time.
