Wrapping up 2020! Part 1

So glad to see this year end but before I focus on that I do want to look at some positive things that happened in December. Compared to a normal year there weren’t many but that made them even more important. I mentioned in an earlier post that I decorated earlier this year and I’m keeping them up longer. There wasn’t a day that I didn’t plug my tree in as soon as I got up in the morning and left it on until I went to bed. A lot of wonderful memories in those ornaments. And one that will be a reminder of how bad 2020 sucked. 





Brandy and I didn’t get to our Christmas race this year but in an effort to keep it alive we did the course to complete the race virtually. It was also a good chance for me to find a lot of the things from the scavenger hunt that the Smith’s sponsored. 





The next day Donna, Brandy and I had a nice fun breakfast at TJ’s they were still doing outdoor dining. It was cold but we had a good time and as always the food was good. 







One tradition we got to keep alive was the Festival of Lights in Cottage Grove. It was a lot smaller and the meal was pretzels and beer instead of steak and wine but it was still a beautiful display. 











We finished the night off sitting outside at the Covered Bridge Brewery in Cottage Grove eating from a food truck. I had the pepper jack smoked meatloaf sandwich. 



Christmas was nice. We had a nice dinner over at the house after opening gifts and then I got to extend mine by another day when my gifts from St. Louis finally showed up after leaving Hawaii over a week earlier. 😂 2020 right! 🤷‍♂️ This picture was the 26th I put my gifts under the tree to show off the tree skirt my sister got me before opening them. It was a good day. (The 27th now that was a different story in a previous post).



The following Tuesday Smitty to me to breakfast at TJ’s as my prize for winning the scavenger hunt. We had a good time catching up on old friends and talking hopefully about future get together. 



2020 was a rough one and Charlie and I were both ready to move on New Years Eve.

I ordered this book from Amazon and really enjoyed it. I related to a lot of what the author wrote. The next to last entry, a poem, reflects how I feel about still wanting to reach my goal of racing in all 50 states. The PNH is making it more unlikely that I will but I refuse to give up! Olympic Trials!

The Trials were worth waiting for. The competition was amazing over the ten days with world, national, meet and Hayward Field records. Incredible. I took a lot of pictures because I had a great seat. Obviously I won’t even try to put them all in this post but I did put some of them together in collages.  I was fortunate to get a picture with Canadian 400 meter Olympic hurdler, Sage Watson as well as American Steeple Chaser Emma Coburn. They were both so gracious.  This is a picture that showed up online. It’s a perfect view of my seat. I’m the one with the red shirt and gray head with my hat on my knee. 😂 I was really fortunate that Smitty’s friends, Pete and Lori who live close to the stadium let me park in their driveway every day. I don’t think I could have handled standing in the heat for shuttles coming and going every day. Heading Home Early!

When I was sitting in the River Dog with Don in Bullhead City I got a call from Dr. Lonergan’s scheduler wanting me to come in for blood work. I told her I couldn’t make it and she said no problem since I was coming in the next week anyway. That was Friday. Then on Tuesday I got a call from his nurse with the same request so I decided to head back in time to get back Monday for labs. I got the labs and when I saw the doctor two days later he explained that he was just trying to collect more lab data so he could go to the insurance company to possibly get my treatments moved closer together. We’ll see what happens.  We stayed at Spell’s in Denver on Wednesday night and had a nice visit. I had hoped to spend another day in Colorado but 🤷‍♂️ IIWII! The nice thing going home the way we did was it was cooler so we were able to stop more. We stopped in Green River, Wyoming and even got to see a bald eagle on her nest watching one of her babies hang out by the river. It was a good stop. ...
