Fall - Will 2020 Steal it’s Beauty?
I asked the question in the title of this blog September 27th it’s now two weeks later October 11th and I think I can safely and sadly say that it appears the answer will be yes! With the exception of a couple of trees in the neighbors yard that have nice colors the rest has simply been underwhelming with leaves simply turning brown and falling without ever offering the beautiful fall colors I’ve come to expect wherever I am.
Other than these two trees everything is dull brown or maybe dull yellow at best. We have a nice variety of trees on the back of the property and they lost most of their leaves already without ever turning colorful.
On Lynx Hollow I had hoped to see a lot of color when I walk. Unfortunately I haven’t walked much but when I have it’s pretty much the same story. No color or minimal color at best with everything just turning brown.
And I have gone looking. I drove a ways up into the mountains to scout a course for a race I hoped to run and while the area around Lowell Reservoir was really pretty there were no colors to speak of. And to top it off I didn’t get to do the race because I was feeling to run down. 🤷♂️
I also took one day to drive up the Row and hike five miles on the Row River Trail along Dorena Reservoir and just like The Lowell area it was pretty but no color.
Then earlier this week I decided to try again and drove up into the mountains where I raced last August. I thought surely there had to be some color in all the trees in the area. Nope! Wrong again!
So 2020 continues to disappoint. The good news is there are only a couple of months left and hopefully things will improve beginning with the election. In the meantime I’m going to keep looking for color when the rain stops in a few days.

Off the subject of fall colors I learned a lesson I probably already knew but just had reinforced. If you’re a 72 year old with health issues you probably shouldn’t be the one to help hold a goat down while he gets his feet done. Especially in unhealthy for sensitive groups air quality! 😳
