Charlie 🦮 and Me Back on the Road Days 2 & 3

Day 2 was probably the roughest day I’ve had on the road during all my road trips. It was the day I realized it was not smart for anyone to travel with a dog during the summer through the desert. Because of the heat you obviously can’t leave the dog in the car even long enough to run into the bathroom. Charlie did fine because of the AC and the fact I never left him in the car. The heat was brutal. Not only summer in the desert but record setting temperatures.

We ran into construction south of Fallon down to one lane traffic. Fortunately we didn’t have to wait too long. Here’s a picture of our scenery while we waited.

We stopped at a “camp ground “ at Walker Lake in the middle of nowhere to stretch our legs and encountered this welcoming sign. 😳

When we drove through Tonopah, Nevada I saw a really interesting used book store I would have stopped and visited if I had been alone. Probably won’t see that one because I don’t see myself taking that same route on future trips. We did see the “World Famous Clown Motel”. Later I looked it up on Google and it has an interesting history.

When we got to Vegas we got right in rush hour traffic. I already had to go to the bathroom (💩) so bad for the past six hours I was literally feeling sick. It was 121 degrees when we finally got to the motel. The lady at check in took one look at me and without my even asking she changed my room to a first room floor. After taking care of business and resting for a while I bounced back okay.

The reason we took the route we did is because my high school teammate, fellow Eagle Scout and good friend Don O’Brian who lived in Texas was going to be in Bullhead City, Arizona for a celebration of life and we agreed to get together if it worked out. I found a place online that was dog friendly and we met for lunch. I had some great tacos and we had a good visit.

I had originally planned to go only as far as Kingman, AZ because I wasn’t sure how long we’d visit. Don had to help with preparations and I was hoping to shorten the last days drive to Ruidoso so I changed my reservations to Holbrook. Well as you might expect, Murphy’s Law reared it’s ugly head and we got stuck in standstill traffic for three hours between Williams and just east of Flagstaff.

While waiting I got a text with Charlie’s DNA results and had a great laugh. Talk about a surprise. 😂
