Still Not Running
I just haven’t found the motivation to try to start running consistently again yet and truth be told I’m not really sure why. I am continuing to walk almost everyday and the Virtual Amerithon is still a good motivator to walk more even if I don’t feel like it. Another motivator in August has been trying to get out and hike a lot of the local trails.
It has felt good getting off Lynx Hollow Road to do some of my walking and hiking. It’s surprising how many trails there are that feel isolated when you’re actually right in or around established neighborhoods.
They have a nice bark trail around the outside of the athletic complex at LCC that is almost a mile. I went there with the intention of doing a few laps but the loop was blocked at one point so I just went back and forth a couple of times. I noticed security driving around and as I was leaving I noticed a sign that I didn’t notice driving in that said the campus was closed by order of the Governor! Coronavirus- the gift that keeps on giving! 😳
Even outdoors anyone with common sense and concern for anyone but themselves has a mask handy in case social distancing becomes impossible. The majority of people I see even on trails are being conscientious about mask wearing. It’s almost a given that if someone doesn’t wear a mask when one is called for should have Trump stamped across their forehead.
Labor Day weekend I had decided to do my first in person race since March 8th. I contacted Smitty and we agreed to do the Eugene Brews Cruise for the third year in a row. We weren’t comfortable going to the brewery afterwards but I did go to Smitty and Denise’s for a visit. The first time we’ve been together since they left for Arizona in January. It has been such a crazy year. Little did I know it was about to get crazier.
That evening I ate a pre race meal even though the race didn’t start until noon and I knew I would probably have to walk more than run.
The race and the visit were both fun. I commented to Smitty that it was the first time I had smelled the smoke from fires in the state. That night I found out why. And it wasn’t good.

When I went to the Mt. Pisgah area my plan was to just walk the lower trails but I wound up bisecting the Summit Trail so I took it. It was a pretty steep hike but I’m glad I followed it to the top.

Sunday Brandy and I hiked the Row River Trail and then finally stopped at the new Covered Bridge Brewery. It was well spaced seating and everyone was conscientious about masks and social distancing.
